Tom Peitz

Tom Peitz age 70 of Hartington, Nebraska died on Monday, August 22, 2022 at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska due to a battle with Mesothelioma.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, August 26, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington with the Rev. Owen Korte officiating.  Burial will be at St. Michael’s cemetery in Hartington with military rites by the Hartington VFW Post #5283 and the American Legion Riders.  Visitation will be on Thursday, at church, from 5-8:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue on Friday one hour prior to services.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.

Pallbearers will be Tom’s nephews Brad Peitz, Pat Peitz, Mike Peitz, Nick Peitz, Shawn Hagerty, Brian Hagerty, Andy Hagerty, Tyler Peitz, Gabe Taylor, and Wade Taylor.

Thomas Jerome was born on January 12, 1952 in Yankton, SD to Joseph Frederick and Sylvia Caroline (Boeckman) Peitz. He grew up in Hartington and attended Holy Trinity and graduated in 1970 from Cedar Catholic High School.  Tom joined the U. S. Air Force in October of 1970 and served until October of 1974.  Tom worked at Christiansen Well for several years before working at Peitz GMC where he retired in 2018.  Tom also drove the school bus for local schools for 43 years which he thoroughly enjoyed.  Tom married Peggy J. Sandrock on January 26, 1980 in Hartington at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Tom was a member of the VFW Honor Guard and loved his faith, his family, and working on their small farm.

Tom is survived by his wife Peggy of Hartington; six children Mindy (Kirk) Carr of Omaha, Amy Peitz of Omaha,  Stacy (Terry) Thoene of Eagle, NE, Nathan Peitz and fiance Brianna Haun of Omaha, Adam (Tori) Peitz of Omaha, Tracy Peitz and fiance (Brandon Hegeholz) of Seward, NE; God-daughter Lisa Peitz of Alaska;  six grandchildren Hudson, Kai, and Wren Carr, Oliver Thoene, Nora & Holden Peitz; two sisters MaryJean (Paul) Hagerty of Omaha, Carla (Don) Taylor of Ponca, NE; one brother Darrell (Bev) Peitz of Hartington.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Sylvia Peitz; a brother Tim Peitz; a sister Karen Stunden; and grandson Maverick Peitz.

    Peggy and family , I’m so sorry to hear about Tom,my prayers are with you. I have such fond memories of visiting Nebraska and my cousins. I still remember Tom helping me with Uncle Hans truck so I could bring it back to California. My prayers and thoughts are with you. Your California cousins, Bobbie and family

    Our deepest sympathy to Peg and the family! Tom was a wonderful bus driver, and would pick up our twin girls at our house to go to school. They never had to wait at the end of our drive way. The girls said they always liked him, and felt safe with Tom’s bus driving. May he rest in peace.
