Teresa R. Hirschman

Teresa R. Hirschman age 93 of Sioux City, Iowa and formerly of Laurel, Nebraska died on Friday, September 02, 2022 at Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Laurel with the Rev. Jerry Connealy officiating.  Burial will be at St. Anne’s cemetery in Dixon, Nebraska.  Visitation will be on Tuesday morning at church from 9:00 a.m. until the rosary at 10:30 a.m.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Laurel, NE.

Pallbearers will be Chris Sachau, Brett Sachau, Bart Sachau, Luke Sachau, Daniel McCright, Derrick Hirschman, Joe Stolpe, and Josh Stolpe.  Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great granddaughter.

Teresa Renee was born on November 19, 1928 in rural Dixon, Nebraska to James Michael and Alta Katherine (Vernon) Duffy.  She was raised in the Dixon area and graduated from Laurel High School.  She received her teacher’s certificate and taught country school until she was married to James Julius Hirschman on December 27, 1950 in Laurel, NE.  Teresa and James raised six children.  Teresa also sold Avon Beauty products for 48 years.  She had moved to Lawton, Iowa on September 8, 2008 and recently to Holy Spirit Retirement Home.

Teresa was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Laurel and its Altar Society. She bowled in her early years and also crocheted afghan’s for all of her family and grandchildren.  Teresa was also a very good cook.

Teresa is survived by her five children Micky Sachau of Allen, NE, Val McCright of Utica, NE, Rosie (Larry) Wiebelhaus of Sioux City, IA, Mike (Gloria) Hirschman of Lawton, IA, Julie Stolpe of Aurora; 15 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents James and Alta Duffy; husband James on May 15, 1999 at the age of 69 years; son Pat; sons-in-law Sterling Stolpe, and Dan (Boone) McCright; three brothers Bernard, Jack, and Donnie Duffy.

    So sorry to hear of Teresa’s death. I bought Avon from her for several years. Always enjoyed my visits with her, especially after she found out I had graduated with Sterling’s brother Reed.

    I remember Teresa when she and family was living in Laurel, She sold Avon to my mother (Marilyn)
    I think her family lived across the street from us. My dad was Leo Dietrich
