Lee Ann Baumgartner

Lee Ann “Lee” Baumgartner, age 67, peacefully passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2021 in Yankton, South Dakota following a long battle with diabetes and dementia.

A private celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Yankton.

Lee was born on September 24, 1954 in Springfield, South Dakota to Levi L. and Patricia A. (Gage) Petersen.  Lee grew up in the beautiful Black Hills. She loved riding both her horse and motorcycle through the hills. She was married to her beloved husband, Mike, for 48 years and devoted herself to her two sons and grandkids. She particularly enjoyed watching them participate in sports. As an accomplished accountant, Lee worked for many firms in Minot, ND, Wausau, WI, and Sioux Falls, SD. She and Mike lived in Sioux Falls for most of their marriage. She spent her pastime crafting, something she learned from her mother. Lee’s sweet smile, warmth, and trustworthiness will be missed by all who knew her.

Lee is survived by her husband, Mike A. Baumgartner; sons, Travis J. Baumgartner and Jason A. (Tinia) Baumgartner; grandson, Mac; granddaughter, Machaela (Mitch); and brothers, Tom (Jean) Petersen and Jim (Mona) Petersen; and sisters-in-law, Mary (Jim) Scull, Patti (Jerry) Hughes, and Sandy (Stephen) Engler.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Judy; brother, Robert; and brother-in-law, Paul.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to The Alzheimer’s Association or the American Diabetes Association, in memory of Lee.
