Betty M. Skalla, age 85 of Laurel, Nebraska died on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at Hillcrest Care Center in Laurel, Nebraska.
Services will be on Friday, January 8, 2021 at 10:30 am at the Evangelical Free Church in Concord, Nebraska with Pastor Todd Thelen officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Laurel, NE.
Betty was born on September 24, 1935 to Francis and Maude (Haney) Lyons in Kearney, Nebraska. She grew up in Pavillion, Wyoming and attended school there. Betty helped her mother at home with the kids and also helped other families take care of their children. Throughout her life, Betty lived in several different places between Wyoming and Nebraska. Most recently, she lived in Concord before moving to the Hillcrest Care Center in Laurel.
Betty was married to William “Bill” Skalla. She worked at a nursing home in her early twenties and spent the majority of her life as a homemaker. She enjoyed going to church, going for walks, taking care of children, watching western movies, doing puzzles, and being outdoors. She was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Concord, NE.
Betty is survived by her sisters, Bernice Lyons of Laurel, NE, Beverly Marten of Mitchell, SD, Maxine (Dale) Smith of Martinsburg, NE, Elsie Bierce of Council Bluffs, IA; brothers Bob Lyons of St. Louis, MO, Delmar Lyons of Colorado Springs, CO; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Maude (Haney) Lyons; brothers, Gage, Bud, Jim, Bill, and Ronnie Lyons; and sister, Virginia Lyons.
